Maria Squitieri is a New York native. Inspired by her high school Journalism/English teacher, Chaim Rosov, Maria continued to write. After a twenty-eight year hiatus from school, she returned to Cape Fear Community College where she won first place in short story fiction with her short story, “The Legacy.” She continued on to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing with a double minor in English and Journalism. She continued on and received her second Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She is currently working on her Master’s in Liberal Studies at UNCW in hopes that the combination of creative writing and social work will help her bring awareness to the social injustices that plague the community and abroad.
